Julia studied at The Juilliard School and Columbia University and was an apprentice at Sante Fe Opera, the Glimmerglass Festival, and Wolf Trap Opera Company. She was a member of the Junges Ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden and a Young Artist at the Washington National Opera. She returned to Washington National Opera as Hansel and to the Dresden Semperoper for the world premiere of Chasing Waterfalls. She made her UK debut as Carmen at Welsh National Opera before moving into soprano repertoire.
Julia won rave reviews in the title role of Tobias Picker’s Thérèse Raquin at Theater an der Wien, and her first soprano role was Salome at Tulsa Opera, whose final scene she recently reprised in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall with the Odyssey Festival Orchestra. She makes her Swiss debut as Tosca at Theater Sankt Gallen. Also an accomplished director and an alum of the Royal Opera House’s Engender Network Membership programme, Julia has created and staged new work for the Venice Biennale, the NRW-Forum Dusseldorf, the Toronto Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Helsinki Festival.
