Juho Myllylä – is a recorder player and versatile musician. At the Conservatorium van Amsterdam he studied recorder with Jorge Isaac, completing his master’s degree in 2020. Since 2016, Juho has worked with the world-renowned Renaissance recorder ensemble The Royal Wind Music. With the Finnish Ensemble Gamut!, Juho constantly explores new ways of performing early music, fusing medieval and Renaissance music with folk music, improvisation, and electronics. Their critically acclaimed debut album UT was released in 2020, followed by RE in 2022 and, most recently, MI in 2025. Juho has also given solo recitals of new music at venues such as the Grachtenfestival, Gaudeamus, November Music, Rewire, and the prestigious Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. His solo album, “Herder’s Herd,” featuring new pieces for recorder and electronics, was released in 2025.
As a musician, Juho, winner of the Nordic EAR-ly Music Competition (2016) and the International Van Wassenaer Competition (2019), strives for versatility and an open mind toward different styles, regardless of imposed genre classifications. He has a passion for early repertoire—medieval and Renaissance—but is also interested in the countless possibilities of the recorder in contemporary and new music. Juho frequently collaborates with composers and has an impressive and steadily growing list of new pieces to his name, written for him and premiered by him. Jazz, fusion, rock, prog, experimental and electroacoustic music, live electronics, soundtracks, and film scores are an integral part of his musical landscape. During his studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Juho minored in electric guitar with Hans Kunneman. Besides playing recorder, he is also a guitarist and singer-songwriter with the progressive alternative rock band Burntfield.
Juho previously collaborated with Futurists on the development of the Fish Dance prototype.
