Ilse Jobse – as a deaf performer and sign language singer, I create my own songs that reflect my life experience as a deaf person and my childhood. My goal is to perform my story in a beautiful, creative way.
Through the Rap & Roer project, I connected with producer Sander Geboers’ studio, where he recorded my self-written singles “Handen dansen” (Hands Dancing), “Het meisje die vrij is” (The Girl Who Is Free), and “‘t Is zwaar los te laten” (It’s Difficult to Let Go). “Handen dansen” (Hands Dancing) is even on Spotify! Last year, my work was reinforced with the release of a series of music videos in which my songs come to life (sign language is a visual language).
I was also involved in the Futurists research residency and the development of the Fish Dance prototype. Music in sign language!
