Futurists make interdisciplinary music theatre and audiovisual works with new technologies. They started as an initiative of an Amsterdam-based Polish composer, stage director and performer, Jerzy Bielski in 2018, with the aim of bringing a completely new kind of music theatre to the today’s Dutch and international performing arts scene. A space has been created, in which truly interdisciplinary works are made, with different art forms (music, theatre, video, sound art, dance, installation, VR) being closely and freely intertwined with each other from the earliest moments of creation.

In the core centre of the Futurists works lie new narratives, deeply rooted in our today’s reality and inseparably connected to the current important socio-civilisation related topics. All this, combined with immersiveness and non-intrusive participation etched into every piece, led the Futurists to develop new forms and create a language of their own.

Futurists have, so far, produced four major works:

NONline Opera (2022)

No-One Show (2020)

Futurists currently work with the Dutch National Opera, Innovation Lab/Theater Utrecht and ENOA (European Network of Opera Academies) on a new production created together with and for the deaf people, Fish dance when they are not sleeping. , which will premiere in spring 2025.

In May 2024 the group is premiering a new large scale interdisciplinary opera-ritual ZUAM., which will be performed at Oerol and O. Festival for Opera. Music. Theater, among other places.

In 2025 a new music XR movie experience A. is going to be created.

Futurists push the boundaries of music theater with great ambition.

Futurists’ work, praised by the public and the press,
is unconventional, limitless, and deliberately outside any boxes.

[Futurists is] a group of fearless thinkers who expose our common madness,
our willingness to rush headlong into the fray without heeding the outcome.

Steve Kretzmann
(“The Critter”, South Africa)

Futurists open the doors of theatre to the group which is perhaps most excluded from it, the Deaf.

(…) highly energetic and well-timed show (…)

Bielski has an undeniable sense of theater.

A bit of magic and a bit of ‘return to nature’ style also appeared in Jerzy Bielski’s “No-One Show”.
VR isn’t merely a trendy addition in here, but a medium, of which full potential has been used
allowing to create results impossible to achieve any other way. However, the intense multimedia experience
is only an introduction to much more…the ending being a positive surprise for many people.

Futurists board members are not paid for their work for the foundation, nor do they have an expense account: they are volunteers. Theatre maker and composer Jerzy Bielski is the artistic director and the main creative leader of the Foundation’s projects.
