JERZY BIELSKI (1984) – Amsterdam-based composer, music theatre maker, musician and actor. Graduate of Conservatorium of Amsterdam (Composition, 2015) and Middlesex University (Guitar, 2008) in London, UK.

His piece “not only FUTURISTS” has won the main prize at Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2015, which was followed by a tour in South Africa in 2016. His other piece “+ – / , 1 = _ ; X %” became the finalist of the international competition Danse Élargie in Seoul, South Korea in 2016. He has received the Emerging Excellence Award for Circuit album “Codes” in London, UK.

Jerzy Bielski mainly works on interdisciplinary projects, collaborating with choreographers, stage directors, sonic artists, filmmakers, and painters. His artistic goals lie in searching for and developing new ways of creating music theatre, with the objective of bringing different artistic disciplines to the same level, without any of them dominating over one another. Besides, he is a long time composer and leader of a 9-piece international group Circuit , which plays an eclectic mix of many different styles, consistently moving along the border of “somewhere in between”, not making it easy for anyone trying to describe or understand what they play.

Jerzy Bielski is an artist in residence at Gaudeamus Foundation for the next two years, thanks to the “New Maker” programme of Performing Arts Fund NL. He has also received scholarships and funding from Musici van Morgen, Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, Royaumont Foundation (France), Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, and Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

He was invited to present his work at: National Arts Festival (S. Africa), Danse Élargie (S. Korea), Festival de Royaumont (France), SPRING festival, Amsterdam Fringe Festival, BUMA Classical Convention (Netherlands), MOCAK (Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, Poland), all in 2016. Selected to create pieces for Amsterdamse Bostheatre, Silbersee, Het Orgelpark, and Gaudeamus Muziekweek (2016, 2017). Performed at: Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Bostheatre, Orgelpark, Brakke Grond, Splendor, Q-Factory (Amsterdam), Tivoli Vredenburg, Stadsschouwburg Theatre Kikker, Muziekhuis, RASA (Utrecht), Café Oto, The Vortex (London), Royaumont Abbaye (France), and other venues across the Netherlands, UK, Poland, and Spain. Attended workshops and courses: Prototype II (Royaumont, France), Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Darmstadt, Germany), Opera Courses (Amsterdam, Netherlands), and International Jazz Workshops (Krakow and Pulawy, Poland).
